Hashim Nasr

SUDAN

After the war broke out in Sudan in April 2023, Sudanese photographer Hashim Nasr and his family have been living in Alexandria, Egypt.

"This photography series is an intimate exploration of the emotional landscapes I've navigated since leaving my home in Sudan a year and a half ago. Living in Egypt has introduced my family and me to a new reality, one that requires both adaptation and resilience. Through this work, I delve into the complex emotions of longing, displacement, and the search for belonging in new places .

What began as a homework assignment during my mentorship with Michelle at Through the Lens Collective has evolved into a deeply personal project. Utilizing minimalist and still life photography techniques with a glimpse of surrealism , I aim to capture the shifting in my emotional world. Each image serves as a visual metaphor for the internal struggle between holding on to the past and embracing the present.

This collection is not just about the physical distance from my homeland but also the psychological and emotional journey that comes with it. By stripping down the visuals to their simplest forms, I hope to offer viewers a window into the quiet, often overlooked, moments of reflection and adaptation that define my experience of being away from Sudan."
