ETHIOPIAN WOMEN’S PHOTOGRAPHY MENTORSHIP

For the first time, Center for Photography (CPE) in Ethiopia in partnership with Through The Lens Collective (TTLC), a Johannesburg based photography education platform will be providing a mentorship program specifically targeted to women photographers in Ethiopia. 

The eight month photography mentorship programme designed to develop a Body of Work will be led by award winning Ethiopian artist, Maheder Haileselassie and the director of Through The Lens Collective, Michelle Loukidis. Through mentorship and ongoing critical engagement sessions, mentees will build knowledge of the narrative building process through sustained and in depth engagement with Concept, Technique, Context and Meaning, towards the finalization of a project. The project will take place via a series of regular appointments (via Zoom)where we will discuss project process and development, research and assignment feedback, as well as photographic practice and technique.

Who Can Apply? 

● Early to mid-career photographers passionate about documentary, conceptual, or visual storytelling 

● Those with an idea or theme they wish to develop into a photo project 

● Commitment to active participation throughout the mentorship period 

How to submit: 

1. Send 15 images from a project to Throughthelensc@gmail.com via WeTransfer, clearly labelled Ethiopian Women’s Photography.        Images should be no larger than 2 MB each and labelled with your name. Submitted projects can be ongoing or completed. 

2. Send a short biography. 

5. In no longer than 200 words, state the ideal project/projects you’d like to do if selected for the programme.
